First, I must apologize for missing our July newsletter. The end of the school year was so intense, in a very good way, but it left me with little energy to tackle creating new content and putting out a newsletter. But I hope you’ll find a lot here in this double-issue.
And I think you’ll like this issue - besides lots of great interviews, we have a repost on how to get free books for your school or organization. And we have a lot of new shorter posts on this website!
In this issue:
An interview with Caitlin, a Response volunteer in Botswana
An interview with Liz: An Education volunteer in Ghana
Embracing the unexpected: A Environment volunteer in Paraguay
Other posts at WanderingTheWorld.com
How to Apply for Free Books for Your Peace Corps Library
New Country Profiles Added: Botswana and Cameroon
New newsletter posts on Substack.com
Personal Update from Armenia
So, enjoy the newsletter and let me know how I can help you more!
Announcement: Name Change Update
We will be keeping the name WanderingTheWorld.com for now. As a PCV, I needed to go through channels to use “Peace Corps” in a name change. But PC is trying to strengthen their brand and restricting how the name can be used. And our original name has some name recognition now, so I don’t mind keeping it and continue to share with all of you.
An interview with Caitlin, a Response volunteer in Botswana
📢 In this post, we feature Caitlin Homstad, a Peace Corps CED Response Volunteer in Botswana. Caitlin shares her unique experiences, the challenges and rewards of her work, and the personal growth she has achieved. Join us in exploring Caitlin's inspiring journey and learn how volunteering abroad can change lives.
An interview with Liz: An Education volunteer in Ghana
Liz Madisetti's interview offers a deep dive into her life as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana. From teaching in a rural school to leading community projects, her journey is both inspiring and enlightening.
Embracing the unexpected: A Environment volunteer in Paraguay
Explore the impactful work of Vasilios, an Environment Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Paraguay. 🌳 His projects include tree planting, wildlife monitoring, and environmental education. Discover the challenges he’s faced, the personal growth he’s experienced, and why his journey is a testament to the power of international service.

Personal Update
Like I said earlier, May and June kind of kicked my butt. But all in a good way. So, in July and August, I’ve kind of focused on ‘self-care’. Definitely something that might get put on a back-burner when things get busy in a PCV’s life. I’ve been running and biking a lot, visiting a nearby bigger town, and even going to the capital. Not sure if I’ve caught up yet, but I’m sure I’ll be ready when school starts in September. Even though I see some of the kids in the village from time to time, I’ll be even happier when I see them in my classrooms. And a little surprise: we were able to get a grant to re-outfit the entire school with new desks, chairs, blackboards, etc, for that first day of school!!! But more on that in the next newsletter.
