Feeling overwhelmed by everything at site? It's natural, but don't let it shake you. You've got this! Here are some strategies to boost your self-confidence:
1. Take small actions:
Each step, no matter how small, builds confidence. Start with manageable tasks and celebrate small wins. This is so important, in all places of your life as a PCV - language, host-family integration, community integration, learning your role, getting to know your counterparts, etc.
2. Focus on the positive:
Pay attention to supportive cohort members, Peace Corps staff, and successful moments, not just challenges. Every time something brings a smile to your face, savor it, and make the memory last. Those are the moments that will get you through the challenges.
3. Embrace a growth mindset:
Remember, you're here to learn and grow. No volunteer came to site ready to hit the ground running. No one! It's all a learning experience, from day 1 till you COS. And guess what? That's the same mindset you will take home with you to use for many years to come.
4. Change anxiety to excitement:
Those butterflies? They're a sign you're doing something important. Channel that energy into enthusiasm for your work. We're all nervous. Trying anything new is not easy. But doesn't it make you feel alive?!
5. Remember your ‘why’:
Remember why you joined the Peace Corps. Look back at your motivation statement. Does it still ring true? Your why is your passion. And maybe it needs to be adjusted or changed. That's growth!
Remember, confidence grows with experience. Each day of your service is building your resilience and capabilities. Embrace the journey!
