In the U.S., there are countless free resources available for teachers, but many require a school email address to qualify. One standout resource is Canva.com, a versatile graphic design platform that empowers you to create stunning social media graphics, presentations, promotional materials, and websites. While Canva offers a free version, teachers can unlock full access to all premium content—entirely free.
But what if you don’t have a school email address?
Good news: Canva offers an alternative verification process! If you’re a teacher without a verified school email, simply upload a photo or scanned copy of an approved document. Canva will review your application within 48 hours.
For Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs), this is where a little ingenuity comes in. Below is a template that my Program Manager provided on Peace Corps stationery, which Canva accepted for verification:
This is to certify that [name] is currently a Peace Corps [country] TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Volunteer at [school name] School engaged on full-time basis in co-teaching English with his local counterpart teachers and also teaching after school extracurricular classes to the students.
Thanks to this letter, I now have full access to Canva’s paid features—an invaluable resource for my work—completely free of charge. And the best part? The license is renewable for three years!
Pro Tip: If you’re a PCV working with children in any capacity, you may qualify for Canva’s offer with a similar letter from your Program Manager. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to enhance your work with a world-class tool!
